Dear James
I have been in contact with the office over the last week as we are getting very close to starting works on the internal changes to Spink Hall, Spink Hall Lane, Stocksbridge, Sheffield, S36 1FL. You can hopefully recall that Chris Yorke Architect has engaged you on our behalf, albeit some time ago.
I have a couple of questions that have come to light during the discussions with the builder which I hope you can answer, these are:
• You will be inspecting the steels joists just after the installation, but before they are fire boarded. Is this correct?
• Due to the number of walls the material the house has been built on needs to be inspected to decide if underpinning is required, is this something that you provide?
o If yes, how many trial holes need to be dug?
• The plans are attached for the renovation and we are installing a set of French doors, where there is currently a window. The top of this aperture needs to be raised, do you inspect that a correctly sized lintel has been installed? If so is there some sizing guidance you can provide for such a lintel?
• We have found since the drawings where completed that the lean-to roof above the new kitchen and utility areas needs to be replaced including joist/perlins etc. is this something that you would do? and at what stage(s)?
If you could respond quite urgently that would be most appreciated.
