Subject: FW: 1635 - 5 Dwellings, Great North Road, Barnby Moor - Foundation Assessment
Good Morning Dean,
We attended site on 04/05/2018 to undertake an inspection of the 5No. trial pits. The bearing strata was found to comprise a 1.0m thickness of dense orangey brown silty gravelly Sand, over dense red gravelly Sand. dense sands which are considered adequate to support an applied bearing pressure of 125kN/m². It is therefore recommended that mass fill strip foundations in GEN3 concrete are utilised for the properties with ground bearing ground floor slabs. As an alternative, the mass fill strip may be cast to a thickness of 250mm(min) above the formation level and then brought up in foundation blocks.
The minimum depth of the foundations is required to be 450mm below existing ground level to avoid the effects of frost heave. It is understood that the foundations are proposed to be installed to a depth of 700mm which is considered satisfactory to spread any concentrated loads from garage piers / portal frame columns. This depth may be increased up to 900mm to ensure the footings are formed on competent ground.
The proposals for the foundations as drawn by CRB drawing serviced Ltd. Have been checked and we have the following comments:
Plot 1 – House ok. To the detached garage locally widen strip footing beneath isolated column to 900mm wide for a length of 600mm to accommodate column depth.
Plot 2 – No comments
Plot 3 - House ok. To the attached garage locally widen strip footing beneath isolated column to 900mm wide for a length of 600mm to accommodate column depth.
Plot 4 – Footings around swimming pool to be designed as part of the swimming pool structure for a bearing pressure of 60kN/m² due to the presence of the potential water table – this design is currently in development. To the attached garage locally widen strip footing beneath isolated column to 900mm wide for a length of 600mm to accommodate column depth.
Plot 5 – No comments.
Kind Regards
